Well, my first thought was the Fur Country, but that one has already been shown and the first image wouldn't really fit (neither would the second). Same for Captain Hatteras. The first image threw me off for a while because of the man with a hook for a hand and I couldn't think of any novel in which this would fit except for From the Earth to the Moon and then it hit me...
Is it the Purchase of the North Pole?

and then it hit me... Is it the Purchase of the North Pole? Yes, it certainly is. Good guess!

I thought so! Those look so much like the Baltimore Gun Club members and only Purchase of the North pole would have worked with the arctic scenes. I have selected three images from this next book.

I'm quite lost here. I'll start by saying Claudius Bombarnac, aka The Adventures of a Special Correspondent, given that there's a train in one of he pictures.
But I'm not confident, since I'm not placing the other pictures. The thing is, I don't remember a train journey featuring prominently in other alternatives, but of course it might just be illustrating a small scene that I'm not remembering right now.

A good guess, but no. Have another image

That latest image doesn't really give me any clue that I can see.
Ok, let's see... that picture with the palm trees and the flag seems to suggest Africa, for the trees and also for the solar protection some people are wearing. There also might be a military theme in that picture and in the third one.
Lacking a better theory, I'll go with Clovis Dardentor.

A good guess but sorry, no. It is not that one either. I have posted another illustration, which you may find more helpful (clicking on it will make it larger).

View AttachmentIndeed, much more helpful! That's Five Weeks in a Balloon, just after Joe jumped from the balloon over Victoria Lake. I would never have guessed it from the other pictures, this book wasn't even on my radar when I looked at them. I had thought about what to do with this book, since obviously any image of the balloon would make it obvious. I'm guessing the train image is Dick Kennedy, but from the illustration I had thought it was a woman.

Yes, when 1 showed up I spent some time parsing through the illustrations trying to find any without the balloon in them that I could post. Unfortunately, while I did find five, none of them are particularly helpful, unless you happen to recognise the fourth illustration I posted as Joe. But yes, that final image is when Joe jumped from the balloon, and you are correct about the train as well.

Oh! That’s The Begum’s Millions. I can’t think of any other book where the boy and the horse would fit in that particular setting.

My computer is currently in the repair shop so I will likely be unable to post new images until next week. If someone else would like to, please go ahead!
