I'll start!
Hello there,
I'm Berc. I'm passionate about Jules Verne's works, so I decided to create this forum. I also have a small collection of his books, printed between 1958 and 1966.

Short Bio Quentin R. Skrabec Jr. Ph.D. I have spent half my career in engineering manufacturing and the other in engineering and science education. My education includes BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in engineering. As a practicing engineer and later as an educator, I have appeared on both PBS and the History Channel. I have been used for expert opinion in the Wall Street Journal, USA TODAY, and Business Investor Daily. I have published over a hundred articles and books in science and engineering history. My principal focus has been history, metallurgy, chemistry, manufacturing, and engineering history. I have published twenty-five books in these fields. My principal publishers were McFarland, Pelican, Greenwood, Purdue University Press, and Algora. In addition, over eighty articles and conference talks. I published two business history encyclopedias for Greenwood (ABC-CLIO), The 100 Most Significant Events in American Business (Won National Library Association Best Business Reference in 2015) and The 100 Most Important American Financial Crises. Other areas of writing include Jules Verne, science mysteries, and nature. I am presently a full-time researcher on Jules Verne, Victorian science and Metallurgical studies. Related background is the publication of Metallurgic Age: Victorian Science as well as over twenty interdisciplinary articles on Jules Verne.

Wow,your career and achievements are truly amazing! It's inspiring to see all the incredible work you've done in engineering, science education, and historical research. Your contributions through books, articles, and media appearances are impressive. The focus on Jules Verne and Victorian science sounds particularly fascinating. Thanks for sharing your journey and for all the hard work you put into advancing these fields! PS: You can start a new thread to introduce yourself, instead posting under my introduction.

Would it be better to keep all introductions in one thread, or to have a separate one for each? In any case, I’ll post here at the moment. I’m a retired educator living in Tlaxcala, Mexico, with my dogs and cats. I have fairly broad literary, cultural, and intellectual interests. I’ll provide the links to my blog and Goodreads account, so anyone who wants to do so can get a sense of those interests. I have been interested in Jules Verne since childhood, although I am not a specialist. The last two titles of Verne’s that I read were Islands on Fire (the new translation by Chris Amies) and Five Weeks in a Balloon (the recent translation by Frederick Paul Walter). I always have too many books in progress, so if the Other Literature topic shows any signs of life, I might be posting a few things there. areadingretirement.wordpress.comwww.goodreads.com/user/show/43625824-patrick

Your interests in literature and culture, especially your love for Jules Verne, sound really interesting. I'm curious to hear more about your thoughts on his works and what you're currently reading! Considering other forums' rules, people make their own thread for introducing themselves, but it's totally okay if you leave your post here.

. The last two titles of Verne’s that I read were Islands on Fire (the new translation by Chris Amies) and Five Weeks in a Balloon (the recent translation by Frederick Paul Walter). Hi! I wasn't aware that L'Archipel en feu (The Archipelago on Fire) had been translated to English in a new translation with yet another title (Islands on Fire). The thing with the titles in English is a bit confusing, since they have so many alternative titles. I guess they do it to differentiate the translation. In Spanish (which is how I read the novels), it's translated literally, as El archipiélago en llamas.
